About My Practice

I have worked in the Champaign, Urbana, Decatur, and Danville Illinois area for
over 20 years. I began as a "tech" at a substance abuse treatment center. I felt the
desire to learn more so I could help more. I went back to school at the age of 40
years old and obtained my Bachelors, Masters in Social Work at the University of
Illinois. After completing those degrees I felt I needed to know more. I observed
individuals caught up in the criminal justice system and basically going and
coming in and out of prison. I wanted to know why and what could be done. I then
embarked upon a PhD program in psychology. I gained much, much more
knowledge about why people do the things they do and some knowledge about
what to do to help them change what they do, what they think, and what they feel.
Eventually, I became extremely focused on children and how they are taught in our
schools and why so many end up dropping out, running away, going to jail, and
continuing the cycle.

I would love to teach teachers how to handle the antics and frustrations of defiant
and ADHD children. I hope to provide those services in the future.

Year after year, I worked in the various substance abuse and/or mental health
centers. I learned a lot but I hated spending 50 minutes on paperwork for every 10
minutes with my client. The client lost out over and over again due to the demands
of the state and private funding sources. I decided I didn't want to do that anymore
and began my own private practice. It has been an uphill battle and I still bolster
my income by providing social work services to inmates at the county jail in my
area. I hope to branch out into DUI and substance abuse treatment with a state
license to do so. Right now, I need a facility that will pass the intense regulations
of the Illinois Department of Alcohol and Substance Abuse.
